Beyond Just a Stay: Heartwarming Stories from Mario House, Your Authentic Seoul Homestay

Welcome to Mario House (seoulhomestay.kr). As a host who recently returned from a 10-day journey through the historic cities of Spain, I’ve realized once again that the heart of travel isn’t just about seeing famous landmarks—it’s about the people you meet and the stories you share. Today, I want to introduce you to some very special members of the Mario House family who have filled our home with laughter, culture, and unforgettable memories.

1. Chasing Autumn Gold: Ben from the United Kingdom 🇬🇧

Our very first guest, Ben, was a kindred spirit for anyone who loves the great outdoors. Hailing from the UK, Ben came to Korea not for the crowded shopping districts, but for the raw beauty of Korean nature. As an avid fan of trekking and camping, he was the perfect partner for a weekend getaway.

We headed to Myeongseongsan Mountain in Gapyeong, a hidden gem famous for its silver grass and breathtaking autumn foliage. Climbing the mountain together, we talked about the differences between British moors and Korean granite peaks. Ben was remarkably adaptable, enjoying every traditional Korean dish I prepared—from spicy stews to savory pancakes. Seeing him embrace the ‘real’ Korea with such enthusiasm made my first experience as a host truly rewarding.

2. A Toast to Life: Paul & Elisa from France 🇫🇷

If there’s one thing Paul and Elisa taught me, it’s that a good meal becomes a great one when shared with friends and a bit of spirit! This charming French couple were true ‘bon vivants’. They fell in love with the vibrant energy of Seoul’s traditional markets.

Every afternoon, they would return from the local market with bags full of fresh ingredients and snacks. We turned our dining room into a nightly banquet hall. I introduced them to the world of Soju, Beer, and Makgeolli (Korean rice wine), while they shared their appreciation for the complex flavors of my home cooking. It wasn’t just about the alcohol; it was about the deep conversations that flowed as we explored the intersection of French and Korean culinary cultures.

3. The Wisdom of Health: Viacheslav from Germany 🇩🇪

Viacheslav may have stayed for a shorter period, but his presence brought a calm, mindful energy to Mario House. Coming from Germany, he was deeply committed to a healthy lifestyle and clean eating. He spent a significant amount of his time exploring the local supermarkets and markets, searching for high-quality, natural ingredients.

One morning, I watched in fascination as he prepared breakfast using grains I had never even seen before! It was a beautiful exchange of knowledge; I taught him about the health benefits of fermented Korean food (Jang), and he showed me how to maintain a balanced diet while traveling. His stay reminded me that Mario House is a place for healing and well-being as much as it is for sightseeing.

4. Cultural Immersion & Joy: Heloisa & Claire from France 🇫🇷

Last but certainly not least, Héloïse and Claire stayed with us for over a week, becoming more like family than guests. These two energetic women were determined to dive deep into Korean history and daily life. Together, we visited the National Museum of Korea and the War Memorial of Korea in Yongsan, discussing the resilience and spirit of the Korean people.

We didn’t just stick to museums; we hopped on bicycles and rode through the bustling market alleys. They were so proactive and social that we even organized a party with my local friends. The highlight? Teaching them ‘Go-Stop’ (a traditional Korean card game). The room was filled with laughter as they quickly mastered the rules and the playful ‘slapping’ of the cards. Their vibrant energy reminded me why I started this homestay business—to connect the world through joy and shared experiences.
