From K-Pop Fever to a Culinary Surprise: Satomi’s 4-Night Stay at Seoul Homestay
Annyeonghaseyo! I am Mario, your host at Seoul Homestay (Mario House). Today, I want to share a heartwarming story about our guests from Osaka, Japan—Satomi and her daughter. 😊
1. Discovering the Perfect Airport Bus Route
Satomi, an English teacher from Osaka, was visiting Korea for the second time. Before she arrived, she asked if there was a direct bus from Incheon Airport to my house. After checking, I found a direct route that stops right in our neighborhood! This made my pickup service so much easier. Thanks to her question, I now have a definitive airport bus guide for all my future guests. It was a great win for everyone!

2. The Passion for K-Pop: Stray Kids Fan Signing
The main reason for their visit was truly special: a Stray Kids fan signing event! Back in my day, fan signings were usually free and you just had to wait in a long line. Nowadays, it involves online reservations and album purchases—things have changed so much! Seeing fans travel all the way from Japan just to see their favorite artists reminds me how powerful K-pop has become globally.
3. A Dinner to Remember: The “Doraji” Surprise
- Traditional Favorites: For their second night, Satomi requested Naengmyeon (Cold Noodles) and Japchae (Glass Noodles). They loved the meal, but the real winner was something unexpected.
- The Magic of Doraji-muchim: Their absolute favorite was the Seasoned Bellflower Root (Doraji-muchim). Satomi told me that in Japan, bellflower is mostly seen as an ornamental flower or used in traditional medicine because people think it’s toxic if eaten!
- Cultural Exchange: It was fascinating to see how two neighboring countries can have such different perspectives on the same ingredient. At Mario House, we love breaking these “food myths” through our Korean Cooking Class.
4. Farewell and Cherry Blossoms
Satomi was such a bright and kind guest, mingling perfectly with everyone at the house. On her last day, I drove her to Gimpo Airport for her flight to Busan. She later sent me beautiful photos of cherry blossoms from Busan, which made me so happy. She promised to come back to Korea again, and I truly hope to welcome her back to Mario House in great health!
