From the Sea of Kota Kinabalu to the Streets of Penang
As a Seoul homestay host, I spend most of my time welcoming guests from around the world.
But sometimes, I need to step out of Seoul and see the world from a guest’s perspective.
Last June, I traveled to Malaysia — visiting Kota Kinabalu and Penang — to rest, observe, and recharge.

My journey began in Kota Kinabalu, where I stayed near the sea and enjoyed the slow rhythm of the city.
Watching the ocean from the hotel and spending time at the pool reminded me how important a relaxed atmosphere is for travelers. This experience directly influenced how I think about hosting at my Seoul homestay.

One of the highlights of the trip was snorkeling around three islands, often called the “Nemo snorkeling tour.”
Swimming in crystal-clear water and seeing colorful tropical fish up close was unforgettable.
Moments like these explain why people travel — not just to see places, but to truly feel them.

In the evenings, I enjoyed fresh seafood at local restaurants.
Simple spaces, friendly locals, and honest flavors made each meal special.
As a homestay host in Seoul, I believe comfort and warmth matter more than luxury, and Malaysia reminded me of that.

The second part of the trip took me to Penang.
Unlike Kota Kinabalu, Penang is full of stories, street art, and everyday life.
Walking through small alleys without a plan became my favorite way to explore the city.

This trip was more than a vacation.
It was a reminder of why I enjoy hosting travelers in Seoul.
The calmness, cultural exchange, and human connection I experienced in Malaysia are the same values I try to share with guests at my Seoul homestay.
